Overview

Join Max Joule, an innovative deep-tech startup developing next-generation battery cells and energy storage systems for industries including defence, space, medical, and mining.

As an Electrochemical Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and testing next-generation battery cells. Working closely with the founders, you will contribute to battery cell development through electrochemical research, laboratory testing, and experimental validation while helping build the future of European battery technology.

Your responsibilities

  • Building and assembling CR2032 coin cells and multilayer pouch cells

  • Preparing electrode slurries through mixing and formulation

  • Supporting coating, drying, die cutting, vacuum drying, and cell assembly processes

  • Performing cell formation, ageing, and electrochemical testing

  • Analysing electrochemical test data and presenting clear, data-driven results

  • Planning, executing, and evaluating Design of Experiments (DoE)

  • Documenting experiments, process parameters, observations, and test results

  • Identifying process improvements and contributing to battery cell optimisation

  • Maintaining laboratory equipment, materials, and process documentation while ensuring safe laboratory practices

During your first months, your main focus will be battery cell assembly and testing, electrochemical data analysis, and the design and execution of experiments (DoE) to support the development and optimisation of next-generation battery cells.

What we’re looking for

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of electrochemistry, battery cell technologies, and electrochemical testing

  • Experience with laboratory equipment and analytical techniques such as SEM-EDS, XRD, GC-MS, ICP, or similar

  • Ability to analyse experimental data and present clear, data-driven results

  • Understanding of battery cell manufacturing processes, including electrode preparation and cell assembly

  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) and experimental planning

  • Strong documentation skills and a systematic approach to laboratory work

Experience

  • Laboratory experience in electrochemistry, battery research, or materials science gained through professional work, studies, or research projects

  • Experience in battery cell assembly and electrochemical testing is considered an advantage

  • Experience preparing electrode slurries and supporting battery manufacturing processes

  • Experience with laboratory research, experimental validation, and process optimisation
